About FoRMD and its aims
There has been talk of stopping the decay of the pond in the community for some years but nothing formal had taken off. With the decay getting worse a group of people have finally decide to see what can be done and established Friends of Rishworth Mill Dam.
FoRMD is a constituted group that was formally inaugurated on the 9th March 2016. The group is made up of residents local to Rishworth who know and appreciate the Mill Dam as a beauty spot, wildlife sanctuary and important piece of industrial heritage. The group are extremely concerned how the pond is decreasing in size and depth every year as well as further deterioration of its increasingly rare sluice gates and mill workings.
Bearing the above in mind and also noting that the Mill dam as well as all its sluices and gates is grade II listed, the group set out the following aims in its constitution:
‘The aims of the Group shall be non-profit making and will be dedicated to halting the decay of Rishworth Mill Dam, to improve the biodiversity of Rishworth Mill Dam and its surroundings, to make the Dam and its workings into a safe, educational, recreational, industrial heritage asset and beauty spot for all the local community.’
With the recent change in ownership of the land, we now have a landowner that is very supportive of the groups aims.
