Help us raise funds for the Mill Dam renovation project

As previously outlined, the proposed renovation work to Rishworth Mill Dam is extensive and requires specialist contractors.

The work will comprise:

  • Refurbishment of the sluice mechanisms.
  • Removal of excess silt
  • Installation of in water aquatic fencing to one side of the bank which will be backfilled with silt from the pond in order to create marginal areas which can be planted with native species including aquatic marginal plants and shaded woodland wildflowers, increasing bio-diversity as well as using silt.
  • Reduction of the width at the inlet to the pond to try and increase the flow velocity and overall conveyance in order to disperse the sediment more evenly throughout the pond. This will avoid the formation of the island forming situation which is occurring presently.
  • Formalise the island that has formed and build it up to create a habit for nesting birds and make the banks solid to prevent any vegetation spreading or silt banks forming.
Every penny helps

It is expected that most of the funding will come from grants and the application process is already under way. In the meantime, news of the project has spread throughout the local community. As the grant application process can take several months the group (Friends of Rishworth Mill Dam) is inviting donations from well wishers. Making a donation couldn’t be easier and any amount, no matter how small, will move the project’s launch one step closer. If you would like to make a donation, please click the donate button below.

If for any reason we are unable to complete the project and funds are not used, they will be distributed to other local worthy projects or not for profit groups.
